U.S. intelligence officials have warned that last Wednesday’s attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Trump would likely motivate further follow-up attacks by extremists throughout 2021, according to an intelligence bulletin dated Wednesday and obtained by CNN.
To warn that those who attacked the Capitol have widely viewed their efforts as a success, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said the attack “will most likely serve as an important engine of violence “for a group of national extremists, according to the bulletin.
The added bulletin follows this week’s post that extremists were emboldened by the attack and that “gossip is irrelevant at this time,” the bulletin said.
