It’s unclear how much time Looney, 25, will miss. Players in the NBA’s health and safety protocols for coronavirus contact tracing typically sit out seven days. That would result in Looney missing four games, starting with Saturday’s game in Memphis and including Tuesday against the 76ers, Thursday in Sacramento and Friday against the Hawks.
Without Looney, Wiseman, Paschall and Marquese Chriss (broken leg), the Warriors will be forced to go small with 6-foot-6 forwards Draymond Green and Juan Toscano-Anderson playing at center. Second-year big man Alen Smailagic is available but has not played meaningful minutes this season.
This is a significant absence for the Warriors, who will be without a traditional center after rookie James Wiseman and forward Eric Paschall were entered in the league’s health and safety protocols earlier this week. Guard Stephen Curry (bruised tailbone) is also expected to miss Saturday’s game.
Looney is averaging 4.0 points on 59.8% shooting, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists and has started 15 of 32 games this season.
