ALABAMA – Alabama will receive 10,000 additional first doses on its next delivery, said public health official Scott Harris, but supply remains the main obstacle to getting more people vaccinated.
The state that had received about 60,000 initial doses each week, but will see this jump to 70,000 in the coming week.
Harris said he was happy to have the increase, although the state expected 112,000 weekly doses based on initial conversations with federal officials last year.
“Yes, it’s less than the original $ 112,000 we had forecast, but we’re happy to see an increase at all,” Harris wrote in a message to The Associated Press.
Harris said Friday the state had approved nearly 900 pharmacies, doctors’ offices and other places to distribute the vaccine, but 500 sites did not distribute vaccines because the state does not have doses to administer.
“Every state had the idea that they were going to get a lot more vaccines than they finally got,” Harris told reporters in a Friday briefing.
RALEIGH, North Carolina – Healthcare providers who have seen their stocks of coronavirus vaccines drastically reduced or temporarily suspended due to the state’s abrupt switch in favor of mass vaccination clinics will soon receive more doses, North Carolina’s top public health official said Tuesday.
