Blacksburg middle schooler, Isaac Strom, has been honored by a national science organization for his study on the effect of bike weight on mountain biker performance. Isaac found that carrying an extra 1.5 kilograms slowed progress during racing. Despite this, he concluded that training is a more effective way to improve speed. Isaac received a prize package from the Society of Science, including $125. This recognition comes as part of the Junior Innovators Challenge, open to science fair standouts in grades six through eight.
Blacksburg Youth Excels in Science Contest
Isaac Strom, a 14-year-old middle schooler from Blacksburg, has been honored by a national science organization for his study on the effect of bike weight on mountain biker performance. Isaac conducted a series of experiments at the McDonald Hollow trail system to gauge the impact of carrying an extra 1.5 kilograms on race pace. He found that the added weight slowed progress, but emphasized that training is a more effective way to improve speed. Isaac’s achievement is part of the Junior Innovators Challenge, open to science fair standouts in grades six through eight.
In recognition of his exceptional work, Isaac received a prize package from the Society of Science, including $125. This achievement highlights the importance of STEM education and encourages other young scientists to pursue their passions.
