SANTA FE, NM (KRQE) – A handful of state lawmakers are trying to eliminate some of the governor’s powers over guns. The bill pushes for changes to what the governor can restrict in public health emergencies and in riot law.
The proposal follows last year’s temporary closure of gun and ammunition stores after they were deemed non-essential businesses. House Bill 279 get rid of the governor’s powers in a public health emergency that may restrict the business activities of firearms manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, vendors, ranges, or companies that instruct on fire arms.
