Here is the first line of the winning book, “My Best Friend Gave Me Hope,” written by 13-year-old Zaya Partin as part of a National Alliance on Mental Health Awareness Project. Lorain County Mental Illness (NAMI).
Betsy Amador Ramos, outreach coordinator and program manager at NAMI, said the project was implemented under a grant from Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services the organization received .
Ramos said the grant was received for relief from the novel coronavirus and the project aimed to engage Lorain County youth during the pandemic by creating mental health activities or fiction books.
“It would be written by them (the teenagers), for them,” Ramos said.
