Democratic leaders in the legislature team up to wield political power over Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, who is under pressure to veto a climate bill that would put the state on the path to neutrality carbon by 2050.
“Climate change is the greatest existential threat to our state, our nation and our planet, so Governor Baker should sign the climate change bill that is now on his desk. If it does not take this important step, the Senate and the House are united in our intention to re-table and pass the Conference Committee Bill in its entirety and to present it to the Governor’s office within next few days, ”said Senate Speaker Karen E. Spilka and Speaker of the House. Ronald Mariano said Wednesday in a joint statement.
