ORLANDO, Florida – This week, the Conservative Political Action Committee, better known as CPAC, is hosting an event in Orlando to garner support from the Republican Party.
Among the speakers, former President Donald Trump.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said everyone should wear a mask and follow the county’s mandate during the event at the Hyatt Regency hotel on International Drive in Orlando.
He told the hotel officials about their plans to keep everyone safe.
The event runs Thursday through Sunday, with speakers including Gov. Ron DeSantis, US Senator Rick Scott and Trump scheduled to speak on Sunday. This will be his first post-White House event.
The event was forced to move from its usual location in Maryland as major events remain prohibited there during the pandemic. Florida is one of the few places open enough for big events like this.
Demings said if the county received any complaints, strike teams would be sent to the hotel for a check.
“Now is not the time for individuals not to wear face coverings. We have done a good job in this community to keep the positivity rate low, ”he said.
