As part of the research, Women for Election contacted women who challenged (successfully or unsuccessfully) the 2019 local elections, the 2019 European Parliament elections and the 2020 general elections, as well as women who had unsuccessfully solicited an application to run. Interview topics included participants’ backgrounds, political backgrounds, reasons for running, involvement in the candidate selection process, campaign experiences and, for successful candidates, life as a public representative.
