Morocco’s central bank has reportedly set up a committee to explore the merits and risks of a digital dirham. The Scoping Committee will also study Bitcoin and other digital currencies that are still banned by the Moroccan government.
Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) seems to gradually change its position on digital currencies, local agency Morocco World News reports. He instructed the new committee to identify and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of a digital dirham for the Moroccan economy. BAM further confirmed the existence of the committee at Ledger Insights, noting that it was still at a very early stage.
