Gov. Phil Murphy and Senate Speaker Steve Sweeney on Tuesday announced their support for MP Vince Mazzeo, D-Atlantic, in his bid for the State Senate in the 2nd Legislative District.
The District 2 race opened recently when incumbent Republican Chris Brown said he would not seek re-election this year.
“As a seasoned small business owner and lawmaker, he has been a tireless advocate for the middle class and Main Street,” said Murphy.
Mazzeo owns the BF Mazzeo product market in Northfield. He is expected to announce his fellow Democrats soon, with incumbent MP John Armato and Atlantic County Commissioner Caren Fitzpatrick likely candidates.

On the Republican side, former MP Vince Polistina of Egg Harbor Township announced he would run for the Senate on a list along with former Atlantic City mayor Don Guardian and Margate lawyer, Claire Swift.
