Myanmar seizes satellite dishes |

The ruling Myanmar junta has already banned internet access, and is now confiscating satellite dishes in a media crackdown. Protests against the February 1st coup have escalated. Two telcos (MBT and Infinite Networks) have complained either that their services have been interrupted or access deliberately slowed in and around the main cities of Mandalay and Yangon.

The authorities have at rimes completely banned mobile phone access and imposed a – mostly ineffective – block on Facebook and other social media sites.

Police have also raided electronics shops and seized satellite dishes and receiving kit. In the region around Yangon trucks with loudspeakers have been touring the area saying that it was no longer legal to use satellite dishes and they must be handed in to local police stations.
