NCHC Crisis Team Assists Mental Health Cases During COVID-19 Pandemic

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The crisis center at North Central Wausau Healthcare Center has been doing most of its work indoors since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The only crisis group that has worked in the community has been the Crisis Assessment Response Team or CART.

“The Marathon County dispatch joins them when there is something going on in the community that is clearly mental health based,” said NCHC Director of Adult Behavioral Health Services Trisha Stefonek.

At the start of the pandemic, CART received a fairly low number of calls, but that was not the case last fall.

“There were times, especially when the school year started, where we saw an increase in the number of youth cases they were responding to,” Stefonek explained.

CART takes care of many cases of young people and families. Out of all the hardworking people clearly have a fan favorite.
