New report offers detailed analysis of Capitol Hill siege

WASHINGTON (March 2, 2021) – A report released today by the George Washington University Extremism Program reveals new information about 257 people indicted in federal court for playing a role in the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol. The GW Extremism Program has tracked and categorized those indicted so far in the attack and the resulting report provides a preliminary assessment of participants at the siege.

“The events of January 6 could mark a watershed for domestic violent extremism in America,” said Seamus Hughes, deputy director of the GW Extremism Program. “People came from all over our country, with a healthy mix of those who had some operational planning and others were enjoying the moment. This report identifies some clear steps we can take now to identify extremist groups and ensure public safety. ”
