Nominations open for WVa teachers environmental award


CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – Nominations are open to nominate teachers from West Virginia for environmental leadership awards.

The deadline for the 2021 Make It Shine Environmental Teacher Awards is February 14. The awards are presented by the Environmental Rehabilitation Action Plan of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.

The winners chosen at the elementary, middle and high school levels will receive a personal prize of $ 500 plus $ 1,000 to be used to promote science, technology, engineering and math programs in their schools.

Awards are given for leadership through lesson plans, school programs, or participation in activities that promote environmental stewardship.

To be eligible, applicants must be teaching full-time or part-time or volunteering in a classroom at a West Virginia public, private, or charter school. The program must have been in place for at least one year. Teachers can be nominated by themselves, colleagues, principals, students, or anyone familiar with their environmental program.
