COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSAZ) – The Ohio Department of Health says it is changing the way deaths from COVID-19 are treated.
According to ODH, from Tuesday afternoon they will start using the death certificate data the Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS) as the sole source for deaths reported on the state’s COVID-19 dashboards.
In the past, ODH has reported mortality according to the Ohio Disease Reporting System (ODRS) data every day, and reconcile that information with verified death certificate data of the EDRS. The health service will no longer use it data update death information in the state dashboards.
“At the onset of the pandemic, Ohio recognized the need to be transparent and to report data as quickly and accurately as possible. We knew the citizens of Ohio needed to be made aware of the statewide spread of COVID-19 and their communities, ”said the director of the Ohio Department of Health.
