OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Oklahoma State Board of Education has suspended state report cards, but will continue with students’ end-of-year testing.
The board voted on Thursday to suspend report cards due to what public school superintendent Joy Hofmeister said were significant disruptions in education due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The reality of 2020 hinders our ability to provide the public with information that can be used to compare the school’s progress from year to year,” Hofmeister said in a statement.
Students, meanwhile, will continue to take the federally required tests in the spring, which include arts, math and science in English for grades 3-8. The ACT or SAT will also be awarded to high school juniors.
“Our priority now is to provide schools with as much information as possible about how students may have been affected in relation to school-level expectations, with a focus on the impact on students most at risk of falling behind academically, ”said Hofmeister.
