As she reflects on starting her business in the summer of 2016 as the Coon Valley Candy Co., Schulte is grateful for her rapid growth.

“We have been so lucky that our business continues to grow every year,” said Schulte. “In our first full year of sales – 2017 – we sold approximately 4,500 pounds of fudge. Last year we probably sold over 75,000 books.

“Much of this growth is due to sales from our site Web and the number of wholesale orders we fill these days, ”said Schulte.

Peanut Butter Chocolate is one of the favorites of the 50 varieties of fudge made at Valley Fudge & Candy.

“Until June of this last year, (her husband) Steve and I did pretty much everything on our own, but after moving into our larger facility, sales really took off,” she said. “And we now have seven part-time people on our team of fudge makers and packers. We couldn’t do it without them now.

With the help of her husband, Schulte started the business because she wanted to participate in local craft shows with her sister, Mary Schmidt of Coon Valley. She was making the fudge in a commercial kitchen at the back of the Vendor’s Market at 219 Central Avenue, along the freeway. 14/61 in downtown Coon Valley, until it moved production early last year to a new, larger commercial kitchen in a link building just to the north. The same owner owns both buildings and Valley Fudge still has its own retail area in the Vendor Market building. Along with their own produce, the Valley Fudge retail area also has popcorn from Great River Popcorn in La Crosse, along with old-fashioned candy, saltwater taffy, and a few related gift items. in the kitchen.
