OUr Mental Health OU students will help lead a project to implement mental health awareness and suicide prevention through an organization called the Bandana Project, which will host a session ofinformation Zoom Tuesday.
The Bandana Project began on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus in 2016, according to the Bandana Project Getting Started Guide. Since then, the project has aimed to improve and support mental health in members and surrounding communities by providing help and accessibility to all mental health issues.
The project begins with the students strapping lime green bandanas on themselves or on their backpack, which means they are a safe person to consult regarding suicide and mental health issues. The person wearing the bandana will carry resource cards with hotlines that students can connect to upon request.
