The planks that cover the windows outside of Louie Louie’s piano bar in Deep Ellum are the battle scars of a pandemic and darkness.
“It was heartbreaking to put the planks on,” said co-owner Ronnie Wilson. “It was devastating.”
So, over the summer, Wilson and Louie Louie’s business partner Joey Hamende found a way to hear the sound of live music that the pandemic had almost silenced.
“It was not something we had planned. It all started with the Roomsounds, ”explained Wilson.
The Roomsounds, a popular Dallas-based band, recorded a video of Louie Louie’s dark stage. Bartenders, waiters and door staff were the production team. One video, transformed into dozens of videos from 15 different local artists, and the YouTube channel “Boarded Up Music” was born.
