Peoria Health Leaders Trust Bridge Phase, But Still Urge Caution

“Just being outside – maybe I’ll go shopping or something,” Bradley student Conner Ogle said. “Just (doing) something I haven’t done in a while because I haven’t been able to.” A month ago, hospitalizations were at their highest point all year, but central Illinois has made some big strides since then – including fewer people hospitalized with COVID-19 and a lower number of new cases.

But public health leaders are still cautious. Pritzker said Thursday he is confident Illinois could be restriction-free in less than six weeks.

“Over 60% of our workforce at this point has no experience working in a pre-COVID Chik Fil A,” East Peoria Chick-Fil-A employee Liam Kingsbury said. “So some of the trainers, owners and operators are having to train everybody to get used to that whole dine-in experience, which has been a lot of fun.” Vaccine supply is higher than ever and more than a third of the tri-county area is already fully vaccinated, but experts admit some crowds are still hesitant.

The Bridge Phase also has some fast food restaurants ready to welcome customers back inside, but some employees in East Peoria have to get ready for new changes. “This is something that we’ve been looking forward to, but it doesn’t mean that the pandemic is over,” Peoria public health administrator Monica Hendrickson said. “It just means we are getting one step closer to getting back to some type of normalcy.”

Source “I think the biggest thing is to share your story. Why did you get vaccinated? What does it mean to you to get vaccinated? Feel comfortable having those discussions,” Hendrickson said.
