Relocation of the Region 8 Science Fair online;  winners announced |  Livingston / Tangipahoa

HAMMOND – Normally hosted by the University of Southeast Louisiana every year, this year’s Region VIII Science Expo was held virtually for the first time due to COVID-19. Students explained their projects to the Science Fair competition judges in Google Meet or in video submissions.

Budding Researcher Awards were presented to Rebekah Alker and Joshua Wilson of North Lake Christian School; Kate Vaile, of the Southeastern Laboratory School; and Jayla Ezidore and Amari Fiffe, of Southeastern STILE / GEAR UP.

All regional first and second place winners will attend the State Science Fair later this spring at LSU.

The Science Fair winners, classified by division and school, were:

Senior Division (Grades 9 to 12)

FONTAINEBLEAU SECONDARY SCHOOL: Ananya Kaushal, first, microbiology.

SOUTH-EAST STILE / GEAR UP: Zavier LaMotte, third, plant science; Khan Suluki, honorable mention, plant science; and Areecia Tyndale, Honorable Mention, Plant Science.

Junior division
