The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and local nonprofits have started a pilot program that gives the COVID-19 vaccine to farm workers.
The pilot program was the first trilingual, tricultural public health clinic in Santa Barbara County to be established.
Online apps and emails have created a virtual barrier for some and public health says it wants to fill this digital gap with the program.
Rebeca Ortiz was one of the many interpreters working at the clinic to help translate Mixteco’s Spanish, English and indigenous language.
“We’re here to help them complete their paperwork, address their concerns, and answer any questions or uncertainties about the vaccine,” Ortiz says.
