Today the Department of the Interior (DOI) announced that it will revoke Secretarial Order 3369, which has ruled out scientific research and its use in agency decisions. Set up by the previous administration, the secretariat order prevented DOI decision-makers from resorting to scientific studies that did not do everything data Publicly available.
This order potentially precluded the use of studies, for example, that included data on the locations of endangered or threatened species or data on the health of individuals, which cannot be made public. With the ordinance rescinded, scientists and policymakers can once again bring in the best science available to help inform decisions and continue to make progress in protecting endangered species, the health of people, and our country’s natural resources. ..
