This year, Mississippi House and the Senate drafted versions of a teacher pay raise, with basically the same elements. Members awarded $ 1,000 to teachers and assistant teachers from all sides, with $ 100 more for assistant teachers.
The bill would raise the basic salary of teachers to $ 37,000, slightly less than the southeast average of $ 38,420, and cost the state about $ 51 million.
