SOUTHAMPTON – The Southampton School Committee has voted no confidence in the city’s board of health, citing concerns about the board’s contact tracing and difficulty in contacting members.
“We had issues with our board of health for a while where they weren’t doing proper contact tracing,” school committee member Gregory Bennett said in an interview.
“That’s just another reason why it was less safe for us to have students in school,” he said. “Our goal has always been to get our students back to school as soon as it was safe to do so, so it was disappointing… that the board of health didn’t work with us to resolve these issues.
The school committee vote on Friday was unanimous and comes at a time when cases of COVID-19 have increased in town. Last week, the state designated Southampton as a community at high risk for COVID-19 transmission, meaning it has had at least 25 new cases of COVID-19 in the past two weeks….
