Allen, Purple Hornets whitewash Wykons, 50-0 | News, Sports, Jobs IRON RIVER — L’Anse scored 37 points in the first quarter en route to a dominant 50-0 win against West Iron County on Saturday.

West Iron (0-4), who has struggled with numbers this season, as well as injuries, had their jayvee players dress for the game. It was Homecoming and Senior Day for the Wykons as well, however the Purple Hornets offense was to much for the host Wykons. The Mountaineers defeated L’Anse 42-0 on Sept. 17 at L’Anse.

“I was pretty happy with our performance today, after such a tough loss to Iron Mountain last week,” said L’Anse head coach Mark Leaf. “I really like how the kids bounced back today, we really got off to a fast start and had great execution.” L’Anse (3-2) was led in the first quarter with three touchdown runs by senior running back Dysean Allen.

Allen’s touchdown runs were 56, 17 and 66 yards respectively for L’Anse, who didn’t attempt a pass all day. Braydon Lee scored two touchdowns for the Purple Hornets as well. “We had a good week, with Homecoming, the kids had a great time with everything leading up to today’s game,” West Iron head coach Mike Berutti said. “I hoped we’d have come out and played a little bit better than we did today. In the second half we did play better against their backups.”

“Everyone got a lot of playing time today, which was great. But hats off to West Iron County, they have a young team that’s struggling with numbers and didn’t give up. It’s always tough to get a win on the road, especially on a Saturday afternoon, so I am pleased,” Leaf added. Baraga senior Virgil Mongozid also reached the end zone for L’Anse. Junior Kellen Koskinen also scored a touchdown for L’Anse.

The Purple Hornets host Negaunee on Friday, while the Wykons visit Houghton. Baraga senior Virgil Mongozid also reached the end zone for L’Anse. Junior Kellen Koskinen also scored a touchdown for L’Anse.
