BASKETBALL GIRLS: Heritage falls during the first state round | Sports

It was a significant turnaround for the Heritage Lady Generals during the 2020-2021 season.

Sadly, it came to an abrupt end in Lithonia on Tuesday night as the Navy-and-Reds clashed with a strong team from Arabia Mountain and abandoned a 71-36 decision in the first round of the AAAA class playoffs.

The Lady Rams, the No.2 seed in Region 6, took an 18-6 lead after the first quarter to take control of the game early. They were leading 33-17 in intermission and increased their advantage to 56-29 going into the fourth quarter.

Sydney Bunkley had a game-high 18 points for Arabia Mountain, which improved to 15-2 over the season. The Lady Rams will play Region 8 champion Jefferson in the second round after the Lady Dragons crush North Clayton, 82-20.

Lauren Mock made her way to 11 points in the evening, while Gracie Murray added nine. Dayonna Perryman had six, followed by Riley Kokinda and Brooke Matherly with five each.

Heritage, the third seed in Region 7, ended her year at 17-8 overall.
