Brookline Suspends School Sports Due To Rise In COVID-19 Cases - Boston News, Weather, Sports

A recent order from Brookline’s Department of Public Health put all school athletics programs on hold on at least February 1, citing an increase in COVID-19 cases in the community and “contacts and exposures related to sports competitions in schools. “

The ordinance applies to all public and private schools, and city officials plan to assess at the end of January whether programs can resume.

“Although we do not want to see the cancellation of matches and training for our students’ athletic programs, but there have been cases of COVID-19 directly related to sports, and we must take all measures that we can to protect everyone in the city, including young people who may be at risk when participating in sports, ”said Dr Swannie Jett, the city’s public health commissioner, in a statement.
