Cherokee Names Veihman New Men’s Basketball Coach |  sports

Veihman takes over for longtime coach Roger Kvam, who retired after winning more than 500 games a long career, including the last 18 years at Cherokee. He led the Warriors to a 20-7 record and a second-round playoff appearance this past season. With at Sequoyah, Veihman helped lead the team to the quarterfinals during the 2019-20 season, helping produce multiple all-region players, including all-time leader scorer Jacksen Greco. In the same season, Veihman’s JV team completed a perfect 18-0 season.

Cherokee names Veihman new boys basketball coach | Sports Veihman previously worked at Eastside High School in Covington, where he helped lead the Eagles to three consecutive playoff appearances and produce four collegiate players in three years.

“We cannot wait for Warriors Nation to meet coach Veihman and thrive off the infectious energy and enthusiasm he brings,” Cherokee athletic director Jeremy Adams said in a release. “Coach Veihman is dedicated to embrace and respect the rich history of the program, while paving the way for generations to come.” Veihman’s wife, Kelsey, is a Cherokee graduate and they have four children — Fisher (6), Dekker (4), Tatum (3), and Lyla (newborn).

Veihman attained his love for basketball during his high school career as a standout player at Alleluia Community School in Augusta, scoring more than 2,400 points in his career. He was invited on two occasions to the prestigious national 5-Star Basketball Camp. Veihman said he believes in building his program on relationships, enthusiasm, authenticity and leading through integrity. These characteristics are built through a very detailed pyramid of success he has developed that will be the cornerstone of his program.

“Sports is a huge part of our life, especially for me and the kids,” Veihman said in the release. “If it’s not sports, though, you can find us in search of fresh air and simple adventures in the outdoors. We love the getting away to the mountains, fishing, hiking and spending time with family at our home away from in the Northwoods of Northern Minnesota.”
