The Montreal Canadiens have fired head coach Claude Julien and assistant coach Kirk Muller.
The team announced that Dominique Ducharme will take on the interim head coach position and Alex Burrows has joined the coaching staff. Luke Richardson and Stéphane Waite will retain their respective roles within the coaching group.

Julien ends his tenure with the Canadiens with a 129-123-35 record. In its four years with the team, Montreal missed the playoffs twice and lost in the first round the other two years. The Canadians were the lowest-ranked team to qualify for all 24 teams after the season last year and then toppled the Pittsburgh Penguins in the qualifying round. They then lost in six games to the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round.
