Cole, who planned to participate in all the contests during the evening, was willing to bet the race relay was going to be even more fun. Cole’s parents, Paul and Jessie Lamb watched from the sideline, excitedly cheering him on as he competed in the bat relay.
Farm Olympic provides youth a night to let loose “I am the competitive, encouraging father,” Paul said when asked what was more fun – Cole competing or watching him.
“In today’s world of technology and all the crap and technical stuff that kids like to play, this is good to get them outside and motivated them to move and run and interact with people they don’t know and make new friends,” In addition to having fun at Farm Olympics, Cole also enjoyed winning reserved grand champion in showmanship in his class with his pig.
Jessie said this was Cole’s first year as a member of the Cumberland Valley Kids 4-H Club and his first time participating in the annual Farm Olympics. Paul thought the Farm Olympics was a great thing for the children at the fair.
Cole said he is already looking forward to next year’s fair and competing again with his animal and in Farm Olympics. This was Rachel’s first time participating and she took part in the bat relay, which her team won.
Farm Olympics drew a large crowd. Parents and other spectators gathers to watch the more than 100 kids participated in the 2.5-hour event. Courtney Haug, Junior Fair Board adviser, said the number of participants was on average with previous years, but more than she expect this year with the new location of the vent. Rachel Clevenger, 9, a first-year member of the Guernsey County Saddle Club 4-H Club said she participated in the Farm Olympics just for fun.
Typically, in the past the event had been held in the Home of Champions but was moved this year to the horse arena to get more activities on that side of the fairgrounds.
