On the last Thursday in February 2020, before there was any talk of canceling the track season or implementing social distancing guidelines due to the upcoming COVID-19 pandemic, Los Angeles defensive back Ceyair Wright Angeles Loyola High gave a hint of how quickly he can be when he unleashed a speed blast to run 100 yards in 10.92 seconds in a double encounter against West Hills Chaminade.
“It was the first time in the state at the time,” Wright said. “I was hoping to continue on this path.”
He left shortly after to take a two-week trip to North Carolina to film a television pilot. A week later, his friend, Santa Ana Mater Dei defensive back Domani Jackson passed him for the No. 1 in the state with a time of 10.78.
“Him and I didn’t care who was going to be faster at the end,” Wright said. “If we had continued, I would have dethroned him.
