CHARLOTTE – Schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg are putting high school athletics on hiatus until February 15 due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Mecklenburg County. But the district will allow teams already competing for the playoffs to continue playing, reports the Charlotte Observer.
The move comes after the school board voted Thursday to keep the school system in distance learning until mid-February.
Cross-country teams, with the state championship meeting on January 22 and 23, and volleyball, in which the playoffs are underway along with the state championships on January 23, will be allowed to complete their seasons.
