Wiseman reminds Mychal Thompson of ‘young’ David Robinson originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
James Wiseman nears the final games the first half of his rookie season, and even though injuries prevented the No. 2 overall pick for a few weeks, he’s already proving his worth across the NBA.
This includes Mychal Thompson, father of Klay Thompson and radio commentator for the Los Angeles Lakers. Thompson offered plenty of praise and an intriguing comparison to the rookie in an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Kerith Burke, which airs in full Sunday on Warriors Pregame Live.
“[Wiseman] it will be fine, ”said Thompson. “He is only 19. You can see he has a high basketball IQ. He’s ready to be coached, not just by Steve Kerr, but by Draymond [Green], Steph [Curry] Klay, the veterans of the team. He obviously has a lot of talent.
In fact, Wiseman’s first impressions were so encouraging that they reminded Thompson of a Hall of Fame.
“I played against David Robinson, and he reminds me of a young David Robinson,” Thompson said of Wiseman. “Athletic, fast, good hands, good touch. He’s going to be a star in this league for many, many years.
It is surely quite a compliment. Robinson was a 10-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA Champion. If that’s Wiseman’s pace, obviously it’s a great place.
