Former Houston Texans star pass-rusher JJ Watt had a blast in free agency, but he finally picked his next team. On Monday, the five-time Pro Bowler announced he is signing with the Arizona Cardinals. According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are awarding Watt a two-year, $ 31 million contract with $ 23 million guaranteed.
Watt chose to follow former Texans star DeAndre Hopkins west instead of joining his brothers in Pittsburgh or signing with another candidate. Watt’s decision is surprising given that other teams like the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns would all have a serious interest in Watt. As mentioned in site official of the cardinals, the cardinals were not considered a contender until Monday. Still, that defense is definitely one that’s on the rise, and a defensive front that includes people like Watt and Chandler Jones is something opposing quarterbacks don’t want to see.
