Ionia Bulldogs won their opening-round game of the Lakewood districts against Battle Creek Pennfield. Kaidence Thomas pitched a no-hitter and Londyn Brown led the Ionia offense with four hits and three RBIs. CC-C Eagles lost to Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart during their district-opener and Chippewa Hills beat Central Montcalm in their district opener. Tri County Vikings defeated Orchard View during the first round of the Fremont districts. The Green Hornets lost to West Catholic during their district opener in baseball.

The Ionia Bulldogs started off strong in the Lakewood districts with a convincing 11-1 victory over Battle Creek Pennfield. Kaidence Thomas led the way with a no-hitter on the mound, striking out three batters in just five innings. The offense was also firing on all cylinders, with Londyn Brown and Thomas each contributing three RBIs. Allyson Strasser added three hits to help secure the win. The Bulldogs will face off against Portland in the district semifinals on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the CC-C Eagles struggled in their district opener against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, falling 17-0. Haeven Clark pitched the entire game, but was unable to hold off Sacred Heart’s offense, allowing 13 hits and five walks. Ella Hagerman had two hits for the Eagles, while Jenna Berry added one. The loss marks the end of the season for CC-C, finishing with a record of 21-18.
Central Montcalm also fell in their district opener, losing 5-3 to Chippewa Hills. The Hornets found themselves in an early hole, trailing 3-0 after the first inning. They were able to tie the game in the fifth inning, but Chippewa Hills responded with two runs of their own to secure the victory. Lauren Alexander had a strong showing at the plate, contributing two singles, a double, and an RBI. Kelsey Ross also had two hits, while Alyssa Johnson and Kate Hardy each drove in a run. The Hornets finish their season with a record of 15-17.
The Tri County Vikings had no trouble advancing to the Fremont district semifinals, defeating Orchard View by a score of 20-4. Unfortunately, no individual stats were submitted for the game.
Turning to baseball, the Central Montcalm Green Hornets struggled in their district opener against West Catholic, losing 8-1. The Hornets were unable to get their offense going, managing just one run on four hits. The loss marks the end of the season for Central Montcalm, finishing with a record of 9-23.
In retrospect, it was a mixed bag for local teams in the opening round of district play. The Ionia Bulldogs will look to continue their strong play in the semifinals, while the CC-C Eagles, Central Montcalm Hornets, and Tri County Vikings will turn their attention to next season.
