SALEM – One way or another, high school sports are expected to return to competition starting March 1.
The Oregon School Activities Association executive board approved the start of football, cross-country, and (in part) volleyball in a Zoom meeting on Monday, February 8, while football players still await further guidance from the Oregon Health Authority to determine if they can play games this winter and spring.
“It was a priority for the board,” Peter Weber, OSAA executive director, told the Bulletin. “Let go of those who can go. And those who cannot provide alternative options. “
Those who can: Football and cross-country are allowed to start training on February 22, as questions remain about what the playoffs will entail. These questions will likely be clearer after an OSAA board meeting on February 17.
Those who can’t: volleyball and football are waiting for more national guidelines to come back fully.
