With their All-Berks center struggling for most of the game, Reading High needed someone else to pull themselves up against Cumberland Valley on Saturday.
Daniel Alcantara took the lead, scoring a season-high 22 points as the Red Knights held off 60-50 at Cumberland Valley in an unbeaten battle early in the season Saturday at Mechanicsburg.
Alcantara, an all-division pick last season in sophomore, also caught nine rebounds, the team’s top, and made six steals.
Sophomore Ruben Rodriguez scored 12 points for the Red Knights (4-0), who claimed their second road win of the week against a Commonwealth foe from the Mid-Penn Conference. They beat league favorite Central Dauphin on Monday in overtime.
Rodriguez hit a pair of 3s and scored 10 points in the second quarter as the Red Knights took a 33-26 halftime lead.
