Green Bay Packers quarterback and reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers has donated $ 1 million to help 80 local businesses in or around his hometown of Chico, Calif.
The businesses Rodgers helps are all either in Chico or in Butte County, where Chico is located. Restaurants and retail businesses with 20 or fewer full-time equivalent employees may apply for assistance through this fund.
All 80 of these businesses will receive grants through the North Valley Community Foundation’s Aaron Rodgers Small-Business COVID-19 Fund in Chico. Grants will total over $ 1 million.
These grants will help cover rent for an average of three months or more, and they will also help cover other running costs.
“Small local businesses are the heart and soul of a community,” Rodgers said in a statement. “In apps and videos, it was heartbreaking to hear about all the obstacles facing restaurants and retail businesses. Many of them are struggling to stay in business, but they are hopeful that there will be an end to it. “
Rodgers started the fund by donating $ 500,000 in early February. He later decided to increase his donation to $ 1 million. The fund also received donations from other sources totaling more over $ 200,000.
