Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports has released his latest simulation draft, and the Pittsburgh Steelers trade in the first round to select their quarterback of the future.
In the event, Pittsburgh sends the Los Angeles Chargers its No. 24 and 55 picks and a third-round pick in 2022 to slide to 13th place overall. With the 13th pick, Wilson has the Steelers drafting Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
“Maybe Big Ben is coming back for another season, maybe he doesn’t. Either way, the Steelers are on the hunt for their next franchise QB and will need to trade to get it, ”Wilson wrote. “Two decades ago Jones, a traditional pocket passer, would have been one of the top five picks. In 2021, he will be less valued than the sportiest QBs in this class, but he has a chance to be as good if not better.
Standing at 6-foot-3, 214 pounds, Jones is a prototypical pocket passer and a far cry from the athletic specimens the league has fallen in love with in the post over the past decade. Still, he’s been surgical in Alabama and the numbers speak for themselves.
