Volunteer fans watched a moment that will go down in University of Tennessee sports history as a signing victory last Thursday night. Lady Vols, No.21 under second-year head coach Kellie Harper, upset South Carolina’s No.2, shattering a 31-game winning streak in the SEC games for Gamecocks. Tennessee edged out conference rivals in a 75-67 victory at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. Up to 16 points behind in the game, the Lady Vols picked up the pace on offense in the second half, scoring 50 points for the win.
“I’m proud of our team and proud of our efforts in the second half,” Harper said after the game. She also paid tribute to the discipline of South Carolina by reaching the conference winning streak that began on March 8, 2019. Their streak comes in second only after the Tennessee 36-.game the conference victory ran from 2010 to 2012.
The victory marked Tennessee’s first against a top five opponent since 2017, giving the team momentum to end the season and head into Harper’s postseason debut as Lady Vol’s head coach. . However, Tennessee lost to No.22 …
