Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier is a bad man. The former interim lightweight champion showed he is just as tough and powerful as any man in the division on Saturday night at UFC 257 with a thrilling second-round save by Conor McGregor. Poirier survived a few early shots from McGregor before securing an out and ultimately beating his opponent’s calf in the lead.

McGregor’s calf damage ended up reversing the fight as Poirier advanced with an attack that knocked McGregor down and led to the second round stoppage. Poirier, who is left in limbo with UFC President Dana White, insisting that champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will be back for one more fight despite his retirement being announced in October, believes he should be the champion if Nurmagomedov is out of place.

Elsewhere on the map, Michael Chandler made a thunderous debut with a first-round TKO from Dan Hooker. The former Bellator MMA lightweight champion quickly worked on Hooker by releasing him with a right hook before adding another set of ground punches. Chandler thinks his next title fight should be for the title.

Additionally, Marina Rodriguez made a statement with her second round knockout of Amanda Ribas to open the PPV. Rodriguez was stunned and dropped Ribas, which led to referee Herb Dean walking near the fighters. Rodriguez assumed he had stopped the action, but Dean never made contact with the fighters or waved him. Instead, Rodriguez landed another thunderous right hook before the action officially kicked off. Rodriguez rebounded from the first loss of his professional career.
