Workbook: Lady Hawks plays without Gordon |  High school sports

Myrtle will defend her Union County tournament title without her top player.

The Lady Hawks open the tournament tonight at West Union. Point guard Kinsley Gordon, the team’s top scorer with 24.9 points per game, will be ruled out due to a concussion she suffered when the teams met on January 4.

Gordon is not the only absent in the fight for Myrtle (6-6). Part-time starter Mollie Moody is in quarantine due to COVID-19 contact tracing, as are main reserves Dream Carnell and Emma Speck.

“We wish we had everyone, but we’re not going to make any excuses,” said coach Chris Greer. “We’re going to go out there and try to defend our title.”

West Union (11-6) won last week’s game 47-42. Gordon scored 16 points before injuring herself, a relatively poor performance for her.
