CHICAGO – Church leaders at St. Sabina Catholic Parish have put additional pressure on the Archdiocese of Chicago to complete its investigation of parish pastor Michael Pfleger.
Church leaders announced that starting Monday, they plan to suspend assessments of the church and school that would pay the archdiocese each month.
The announcement, made during Sunday Mass at St. Sabina Catholic Parish, was greeted with a standing ovation from the parish.
The prominent Chicago religious leader and social justice activist has been charged with the sexual abuse of two minors, aged 12 and 13, more 40 years ago.
Reverend Pfleger strongly denied the allegations.
The Department of Child and Family Services concluded that the charge was “without merit”.
