Students prepare for the Montana Science Olympiad on April 7

It’s like a science fair on steroids. Montana’s annual Science Olympiad is now accepting entries from middle and high school students. The April 7 event will be hosted by Montana State University, but will be live this year.

The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics. These topics determine entries into one of the state’s oldest student science events. This year, for example, organizers are looking at digital design and a rubber-propelled helicopter.

Entries can range from astronomy, engineering and other sciences to a dozen events, organizers said in a recent news Release. Suzi Taylor, Director of the MSU Science Math Resource Center, said: “We are really excited to be able to host a tournament for the students. Even if it’s not exactly what they’re used to, students rely on it, teachers rely on it, and they are motivated to do it.

Teams must be affiliated with a school and coaches do not have to be teachers. Interested adults in the community can provide valuable information. A good bit of news – the entrance fee has been reduced this year as it is online and not on the MSU campus. The winners…
