Ramesh Tawadkar, the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, has been heavily chastised for openly demonstrating his support for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by participating in its political events and activities.
Tawadkar recently attended the BJP’s Scheduled Tribe Morcha meeting in Delhi, which goes against the convention of politicians holding the office of Speaker, according to former Congress State president Girish Chodankar.
Tawadkar, according to Chodankar, has engaged in “active party politics” and deserves to be removed from the Speaker’s office in order to preserve the independence of the constitutional office and the dignity of the legislature.
“As Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Ramesh Tawadkar has failed to uphold the august House’s and his esteemed chair of the House’s dignity,” he said.
