QINGDAO, China, Oct.14, 2020 / Xinhua-AsiaNet / – On September 22, 2020, the East Asia Maritime Cooperation Platform Qingdao Forum and Qingdao International Maritime Week kicked off in the new area of the west coast of Qingdao. Experts, academics and elites from various countries and regions of the world and international organizations have come together online and offline to jointly promote deep cooperation between different countries in the marine field.
The forum is hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the People’s Government of Shandong Province, organized by the Qingdao Municipal People’s Government and the Shandong Port Group, and executed by the West Coast New Area Administrative Committee of Qingdao. It consists of seven segments, including one main forum, four sub-forums (High-end International Ocean Health Form, East Asia Marine Culture and Tourism Development Forum, Alliance Conference East Asian Seaports and International Algae and Health Industry Forum), a competition (the final of Global Marine Intelligent Tech Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition) and an exhibition (East Asia Marine Expo). A number of heavy research reports were published at the forum, such as the report on marine cooperation in East Asia (2020), the report on the protection of the marine environment and the governance of the nations of the East Asia and East Asia Coastal Cities Cultural and Tourism Development Index (2020), showing the way forward for maritime cooperation in East Asia. According to the report on Maritime Cooperation in East Asia (2020), maritime cooperation in East Asia is currently facing new challenges, but the consensus and expectation of all parties to strengthen maritime cooperation remain unchanged, as does the investment and support for maritime cooperation and the huge blue development space and opportunity.
Leveraging the international platform of the Qingdao Forum of the East Asia Maritime Cooperation Platform, the new area of the west coast of Qingdao has stepped up efforts in attracting talent and the promotion of investments. Agreements on 24 key projects were signed at the forum, of which 12 are key industrial projects with a total investment of 45.1 billion RMB, covering ten major industries such as high-end marine equipment, marine technologies, new generation information, new energies and new materials. ; and 12 projects led by high-level talents, involving more than 250 talents in 7 emerging strategic areas such as the manufacture of high-end equipment, new energies, new materials, the Internet of things, bio-medicine , energy conservation and environmental protection. Centered around the theme “Openness and Connectivity for a Smart Future,” Hou Yunchun, former deputy director of the State Council Development Research Center and chairman of the China Business Assessment Association, and Xiang Songzuo, a Famous macroeconomist and former chief agricultural economist Bank of China, as well as other well-known experts, academics and entrepreneurs respectively gave keynote addresses.
A segment of the forum – East Asia Marine Expo 2020 was opened and lasted until September 27. The exhibition first adopted the new “offline + online” exhibition mode and set up six exhibition areas for international cooperation and strategic industry; marine engineering equipment and marine science and technology; new infrastructure and new industries; international consumer goods; support industry commodities; and fishery and aquatic products. It is learned that the East Asia Maritime Cooperation Platform is a priority promotion project in the National Belt and Road Construction Plan and a key promotion project in the Shandong Initiative to replace old growth engines with new ones. Focusing on building the East Asia Maritime Cooperation Platform, Qingdao West Coast New Area hosted this forum for the fifth year in a row, attracting more than 1,100 guests and more than 1,600 companies. from 53 countries and regions in total, and won a series of substantial cooperation achievements. At present, the East Asia Maritime Cooperation Platform Qingdao Forum has become an important means of promoting deep cooperation between China, Japan, South Korea and countries from Southeast Asia.
