In less than 12 months of commercial operation, Calgary-based clean technology company Kathairos Solutions has achieved a significant milestone in the fight against methane emissions. Their innovative methane elimination system for remote oil and gas well sites has garnered unprecedented adoption, resulting in the elimination of 40,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions in just one year.

Kathairos’ groundbreaking technology tackles the issue of methane venting on remote wells by utilizing liquid nitrogen as a fuel source for pneumatic devices. With a gas equivalence ratio of 1.2764, each unit of nitrogen used directly eliminates 1.2764 units of methane that would have otherwise been released into the atmosphere. This is crucial as methane is a highly potent greenhouse gas with 28 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide.
