Indian doubles players Divij Sharan and Rohan Bopanna failed in the doubles event with their partners at the ATP 250 Astana Open which was being played at the Nur-Sultan National Tennis Center. In a quarter-final match, Australian Open finalists Max Purcell and Luke Saville bolstered their hopes of qualifying for the Nitto ATP final by securing a 6-3.7-5 victory over Divij Sharan and his British partner Luke Bambridge. Sharan and Bambridge scored a point in the second set leading 5-4, but couldn’t use it.
Sharan and Bambridge scored 45 ATP points and $ 3,230 for their quarterfinal effort. In a doubles match in the first round, Rohan Bopanna alongside his Danish partner Frederick Nielsen faced Marcelo Arevalo of Uruguay and Tomislav Brkic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Arevalo and Brkic’s pair won 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 10-5 in a close game. Bopanna and her partner won $ 2,650 and no points.
Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland reached his first quarter-final knocking out Australian eighth seed Jordan Thompson 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Adrian Mannarino of France and Mackenzie Mc Donald of the United States also placed in the last eight of singles at the inaugural event here. (ANI)
